About this tool

CommuterMap is an interactive mapping tool to visualise the commuting flows obtained in the 2018 Census.

The commuting flows are displayed as a heatmap based on SA2 regions designated for the 2018 Census. Yellow regions indicates low travel volume, and Red indicates high travel volume. Grey areas on the map can signify no travel between the selected areas or an substantially low volume of travel. Commute flows below 6 is not disclosed for confidentiality purposes.

The map can be filtered to visualise the number of people commuting between areas of work and/or education. Local, inbound, outbound, and net commuting flows can also be filtered to visualise on the map.

A treemap is provided to enable proportional visualisation of the census data - which can be examined down to transportation modes used between different regions.
